  • Not to Bug you, or Anything but……….

EDIT #2:  Additional Info for anyone who is interested:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_cricket

EDIT:  I am so embarrassed!  This is a Jerusalem Cricket not a “Beetle” as it says below.  Uncle Tom told me when I was telling our eldest son and his wife about it and called it a “Beetle”.  Sorry!  I hate to give out wrong information!

……This is a Jerusalem ”Cricket” Curtis found outside.

Curtis insisted I be nice to him and photograph him.

Steve identified it with his trusty bug book.

He is pictured with a nickel in the last picture so you can see his size better.

This was a catch and release event.

No Beetles (or Crickets) were injured in the making of these pictures.

  • did he taste crunchy?

that is the first thing I thought of cause he’s on a plate with decorative greens

don’t tell Curtis I said that -he might not like me anymore.

  • Man, just looking at the pictures gives me the shudders!  He is one big bug!!  Don’t think I would be as kind as you and let him go.  I’d have nightmares of him climbing into my bed and biting me.  lol   Will have to go and look him up and see is he is good for anything!

  • I wonder what the the name means. It’s a long way from Jerusalem, and it doesn’t look like a true beetle. Did the bug book say what it eats?

  • so you still got him or did you’ll let him loose?

  • Great close ups!  Blessings to you….Mike

  • @jillcarmel - Yes, he got let loose the next morning.  He looked so scared.

  • @CrazyWiz - The bug book said it is a native of Washington State… I have never seen one here before and I have lived here for almost 45+ years.  I do not know why it is called “Jerusalem” Cricket as we don’t even have a Jerusalem in WA state.  I need to get the bug book and read about it for myself… or look on wikipedia!

  • Wow what a bug!
